Genuine Statement (GS) is a crucial part of the visa application. In most cases, the case officer will decide based on this information.

Genuine Student (GS) Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the GS criteria. Some key factors considered (but not limited to) include:
The Applicant’s Circumstances
- Circumstances in their home country and potential circumstances in Australia.
- Value of the course to the applicant’s future.
- Intentions related to maintaining residence in Australia.
The Applicant’s Circumstances in Their Home Country
- Reasons for not studying in the home country.
- Personal ties (family, community, employment).
- Economic circumstances and incentives to return.
- Military service obligations.
- Political or civil unrest.
The Applicant’s Potential Circumstances in Australia
- Ties to Australia (family, community).
- Risk of using a student visa to bypass migration intentions.
- Intentions to maintain ongoing residence.
- Concerns about relationships formed solely for visa purposes.
- Knowledge of living in Australia and understanding of the course.
Value of the Course to the Applicant’s Future
- Relevance to prior education.
- Career opportunities and employment prospects in the home country or elsewhere.
- Expected remuneration compared to Australia.
The Applicant’s Immigration History
- Past visa applications and outcomes (granted, refused).
- Previous travels, visa compliance, cancellations, or refusals.
If the Applicant is a Minor
- Intentions of parents, legal guardians, or spouses.
Any Other Relevant Matters
Decision makers will consider any additional information provided by the applicant or otherwise available.
