Understanding the living cost and expenses in Australia is key to your financial preparation.

When it comes to your financial planning, there will not be a “one size fits all” plan, your costs of living in Australia largely depend on how lavish you live and what your weekly routine is. The living cost, as stated by Study Australia, is $21, 041 for 12 months. If your student visa includes a partner, their living cost would be $7, 362.

So here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Accommodation

There are a few accommodations that international students prefer, which vary in price:

    • Hostels or Guesthouses → These typically include water, electricity, and wifi costs, and range from $90 to $150 per week.
    • Shared rental → International students can either rent a private room in a house or rent a shared house with friends. Electric, water, and utility bills might not be included in your rental agreement. The average cost ranges from $95 to $ 215 per week.
    • Homestay → For international students below the age of 18, they would typically stay with their guardian parents in their houses. Rent usually ranges from $235 to $325 per week.
    • Rental unit → For those who would rather stay alone, there are rental properties in the Perth CBD, as well as many around the education institution’s campus. Depending on preferences, there are apartments, units, or houses available for short or long-term rent. The average cost ranges from $185 to $440 per week.
